Department of Home Science

Goal And Objective

In Home Science, the first consideration is the home and then the employment. This Science imparts education to the people on domestic life and encourages them and the members of the family to find out methods and solution to the ever changing needs.

The scope of this subject is very wide and universal .The entire life of a student comes within its scope. The main aim of the course  content is to raise the standard of living of the people and improve it so that all the members of the family enjoy the best physical and mental health.

The focus point of Home Science is the family and through the family . The society and the country could be reached, with the help of this science one can contribute to the development of an individual , society  and the nation . This subject with such noble objective and high ideals was started in this college in the year 1984, under arts faculty , thanks to the affords put in by the local people.

Curricular aspects

This subject was started to bring about all round development of the students drawn from the rural and the backward strata of the district .Till 2002 this subject was taught as an optional subject in arts discipline .On students demand in 2002-03 B.Sc. Home science.  Was started by the peoples participation committee under self financing scheme .This is the only Girls College in the district ,so it is really an achievement to have the subject in this college but students were unable to afford the fees proposed by the Janbhagidari(Self Finance) so there were no admission in B.H.Sc. for last many year and as a result we stopped including  B.H.Sc as a subjected in our college but on the demand of student a prosal was send to higher education department to start this subjects on government level.

Adequacy and competency of faculty

The focus point of home science is the family and through the family the society and the country could be reached, with the help of this science one can contribute for the development of an individual society and the nation. The Subject with such noble objectives and high ideals was started in this college in the year 1984 under Arts faculty. The utility of the subject in day today life is much more than other subjects. It is very useful not only for girls as well as boys also.

          This subject student drawn from the rural and backward strata of the district and they generally belong to low and medium income group families. Their medium of study is Hindi and English which is mixed up because of the terminology and other technical words of physiology and other branch they study in English and for rest of studies they prefer to Hindi language.

Details of course design :

The course are designed by the university. The department follows the instruction in this matter. The department has adopted the changes in the examination pattern laid down by the university and has established semester pattern for its course.

 

Learning resources of the department

The laboratory has sufficient number of Equipments and other necessary materials to conduct the practical. We emphasize the principals of  learning “First do and then learn”. We are having sufficient no of books some magazines and journals are also available. Department has one computer and it is used by students, we also have smart classes for online education and virtual classes .

Modern teaching methods practiced and use of ICT in teaching/learning :

This subject is taught by lecturers, demonstration, experiments, CCE, practical, project work, group discussion, charts, models, observation ,  question answer and seminar methods. Audio Visual Aids and LCD,PPT presentation are also used sometime. For practical work the students are taken on field visit to other institution. Recently we visit to Resham Kendra,kendrya puni sansthan. Subject matter specialist deliver lecture and student are benefited by these. Some times for studies and practical of physiology we take the students to the (Blood-Bank) the District Hospital and Introduced them with the knowledge of specialist.

Academic and personal counseling of students

At the time of admission the process of counseling held for the first year student and chance is given by the faculty to attend the classes of different subjects for a few days and select the optional subject according to their interest and caliber. Under shikshak abhibhawak for a specialized class for group of student & faculty was solved student problems not only academic but family problems also.

We organized job oriented program with the help of  Vivekananda carrier cell and encourage the students to take Home Science as a subject and as result of this there is noticeable increase in number of student of Home Science in year 2012-13 the strength of students are only 56,in current year this strength increases with the number of 176.

Participation/Contribution of teachers to the academic activities including teaching, consultancy and research.

For keep our self update we attend the seminar of our subject on state, National and International level. We prepare the question paper for the exam conducted by the university and also act as External and Internal Examiner for the practical exam and she inviting as resource person also.

Placement record of the past students :

As we had earlier said Home Science is a job oriented subject about 80% of Home Science students are placed. 40% of them are working in different service and NGO’s and rest are self employed.

Plan of action of the department

·       We will organize more job oriented courses.

·       We will plan for minor and major project.

·       We will contact with other university syllabus, so the we can fulfill need of modern age.

·       We will try to start faculty of Home Science on government basis.

·       we will plan for one year diploma course of fashion designing with is affiliated with BU Bhopal.
